This performance at the Locarno Ballroom, West Derby Road, Liverpool, L6 was the Beatles only performance at this venue, although the Quarrymen had entered some skiffle talent contests here in the late 1950's. Up until 1963 this premier ballroom was predominantly occupied by dance bands and many of the Mersey Beat groups never got a look in because the management preferred to let their own resident beat group, the Delemeres, perform here exclusively. For a short time in 1963, some of the more familiar names of the time were allowed to
play here, including the Beatles who perfomed at this Special St. Valentines Day Dance
between 7.30pm and 11.30pm, with the first 500 ladies to arrive receiving free gifts. |
